Real AI agent use cases, with sources and setup prompts

How to build and install your own app on a Samsung TV with AI

Short answer: Samsung smart TVs run Tizen, so the Android TV method (ADB over Wi-Fi) doesn't apply. The supported way to run your own app is: turn on Developer Mode on the TV (open Apps and type 12345 on the remote), install Samsung's free Tizen Studio with the TV Extensions and Samsung Certificate Extension, create a Samsung certificate that includes your TV's ID, then package your web app as a .wgt file and install it over Wi-Fi with `sdb connect` and `tizen install`. Claude Code, Codex and other coding agents can do most of this for you, and Samsung publishes official open-source agent skills (Samsung/tizen-agent-skills) that teach them the SDK, certificate and install steps. People below built a TV app for a site with no TV app in about 15 minutes, put a Mac terminal on a Frame TV and removed ads with a DNS setting instead of rooting.

Turn on Developer Mode and connect the TV

Do this once per TV. Your computer and the TV must be on the same network. About 10 minutes.

  1. Find both IP addresses. On the TV, open Settings > General > Network > Network Status > IP Settings (names vary by year). On the computer, run the command for your system. The examples use 192.168.1.60 for the TV.
    shell
    ipconfig                  # Windows (IPv4 Address)
    ipconfig getifaddr en0    # Mac on Wi-Fi
    hostname -I               # Linux
  2. Switch on Developer Mode. Open Apps on the TV (Smart Hub > Apps) and type 12345 with the remote or the on-screen keypad. In the Developer Mode popup, switch Developer mode to On, enter your computer's IP address and select OK. Restart the TV; 'Develop Mode' then shows at the top of the Apps screen (Samsung's steps).
  3. Note the TV's DUID. The certificate needs the TV's unique device ID (DUID). Certificate Manager can read it once the TV is connected; you can also find it on the TV under Menu > Support > Contact Samsung > Unique Device ID on many models.
  4. Connect with sdb. After Tizen Studio is installed (next path), connect over Wi-Fi. sdb devices shows the TV's serial, state and target name; the install commands use the target name.
    shell
    # Mac / Linux: put the Tizen tools on your PATH (Windows: C:\tizen-studio\tools and tools\ide\bin)
    export PATH="$HOME/tizen-studio/tools:$HOME/tizen-studio/tools/ide/bin:$PATH"
    sdb connect 192.168.1.60 # your TV's IP; port 26101 is the default
    sdb devices # lists serial, state and the target name

    If it says 'connection refused', check Developer Mode is On with your computer's current IP and that both are on the same network. USB installs aren't supported on TVs.

Let Claude Code or Codex set up the SDK with Samsung's skills

Samsung's skills teach the agent the SDK, certificate and install steps, so you mostly answer its questions. Needs Node.js 20+ and Git.

  1. Install the agent. Install Claude Code with the official installer (or Codex), then open it in a folder for TV projects.
    shell
    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash     # Mac / Linux
    irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex            # Windows PowerShell
    mkdir -p ~/tizen-apps && cd ~/tizen-apps && claude
  2. Add Samsung's agent skills. Clone the repo and run the setup script for your agent, then restart the agent session (quick guide).
    shell
    git clone https://github.com/Samsung/tizen-agent-skills.git
    cd tizen-agent-skills/tizen-sdk-skills
    bash claude/setup/setup.sh        # Windows: .\claude\setup\setup.ps1
    # Codex CLI: bash codex/setup/setup.sh Gemini CLI: bash gemini/setup/setup.sh
    node --version # must be 20 or newer
  3. Ask it to install the TV SDK. Start with "Install the Tizen SDK", then "Install the TV SDK". It checks Node and disk space first (the TV SDK needs about 15 GB). To do it by hand instead, download Tizen Studio from developer.tizen.org, open Package Manager > Extension SDK and install TV Extensions and Samsung Certificate Extension. Certificate Extension versions older than 2.0.73 can no longer create certificates.
  4. Create the Samsung certificate. In Tizen Studio open Tools > Certificate Manager, click +, choose Samsung, then TV. Create an author certificate (you sign in to your Samsung Developers account in a browser window yourself) and a distributor certificate that includes your TV's DUID. Back up author.p12 and its password (Samsung's certificate guide).

Build, package and install your app

A Samsung TV app is a web app (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) with a config.xml, packaged as a signed .wgt file.

  1. Have the agent create the app. Use the "Build a TV app for a site with no TV app" prompt below, or ask for a new Tizen TV web project. The config.xml should look like this, with your own 10-character package ID and only the privileges you need.
    xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <widget xmlns="http://www.w3.org/ns/widgets" xmlns:tizen="http://tizen.org/ns/widgets"
            id="http://example.com/MyTvApp" version="1.0.0" viewmodes="maximized">
      <tizen:application id="AbCdE12345.MyTvApp" package="AbCdE12345" required_version="2.3"/>
      <content src="index.html"/>
      <name>MyTvApp</name>
      <access origin="*" subdomains="true"/>
      <tizen:privilege name="http://tizen.org/privilege/internet"/>
      <tizen:privilege name="http://tizen.org/privilege/tv.inputdevice"/>
      <tizen:profile name="tv-samsung"/>
    </widget>
  2. Make the remote work. Arrows, OK and Back reach your app as key events. Media keys like Play/Pause need registerKey first (Samsung's remote control guide).
    javascript
    // Arrows (37-40), Enter (13) and Back (10009) arrive automatically.
    // Media keys must be registered first (needs the tv.inputdevice privilege).
    tizen.tvinputdevice.registerKey('MediaPlayPause');
    document.addEventListener('keydown', function (e) {
      switch (e.keyCode) {
        case 37: moveFocus(-1); break;          // Left
        case 39: moveFocus(1); break;           // Right
        case 13: openSelected(); break; // OK / Enter
        case 10252: togglePlay(); break;        // Play/Pause
        case 10009:                             // Back
          tizen.application.getCurrentApplication().exit(); break;
      }
    });
  3. Build, sign, install and launch. Replace MyTVProfile with your certificate profile name and UE55AU7100 with the target name from sdb devices (Samsung CLI docs).
    shell
    tizen security-profiles list # name of your Samsung profile
    tizen build-web -- ~/tizen-apps/MyTvApp                         # writes .buildResult
    tizen package -t wgt -s MyTVProfile -- ~/tizen-apps/MyTvApp/.buildResult
    tizen install -n MyTvApp.wgt -t UE55AU7100 -- ~/tizen-apps/MyTvApp/.buildResult
    tizen run -p AbCdE12345.MyTvApp -t UE55AU7100

    The app now appears on the TV's Apps screen. Only .wgt packages install on a TV.
  4. If the install is refused. Error 1010 usually means a certificate problem. Check the profile is a Samsung TV profile with this TV's DUID, then install the device permit and try again.
    shell
    tizen install-permit -t UE55AU7100
    # or copy the permit file yourself (path from your certificate profile):
    sdb push ~/SamsungCertificate/MyTVProfile/*.xml /home/developer

Copy-paste prompts

Written for this setup. Replace anything in [brackets] before you send it.

1. Check what's possible on my TV first

Before installing anything.

I have a Samsung TV, model [model from Settings > Support > About This TV], running Tizen. I own it. I want to [goal, e.g. watch a site that has no TV app / remove clutter / add my own dashboard].
Explain what can be done with Samsung's official Developer Mode and Tizen Studio, and what can't be done on Tizen (it isn't Android, so no ADB). Don't suggest rooting or firmware hacks. Give me a short plan and what I need to do on the remote myself.

2. Set up the SDK and connect to my TV

In Claude Code or Codex after adding Samsung's skills.

Install the Tizen SDK and the TV SDK on this computer, checking Node.js and disk space first. Then connect to my Samsung TV at [TV IP] with sdb. Developer Mode is on and points at this computer's IP [computer IP].
Show me each command before you run it, and tell me when I need to do something on the TV or sign in to my Samsung account in the browser. Finish by running `sdb devices` and telling me the target name.

3. Build a TV app for a site with no TV app

The Kick case below: a site you want on the big screen.

Build a Samsung Tizen TV web app that opens [site URL] full screen. First check whether the site has a TV-friendly or mobile version and use that.
Create config.xml with the tv-samsung profile, only the internet and tv.inputdevice privileges, and my package ID. Make Back exit the app and make the arrow keys and OK work.
Then build it, package it with my certificate profile [profile name] and install it on target [target name]. Show me the commands and the result.

4. Make the remote control work

Your app runs but buttons do nothing.

My Tizen TV app at [project folder] doesn't respond to [keys, e.g. Play/Pause, number keys, Back].
Add focus handling for the arrow keys and OK, register the media keys I need with tizen.tvinputdevice.registerKey, add the tv.inputdevice privilege to config.xml, and make Back go to the previous screen, exiting only from the home screen. Rebuild and reinstall, then tell me which keys to test.

5. Fix 'install failed' or error 1010

tizen install refuses the package.

Installing [App.wgt] on my Samsung TV fails with: [paste the full error].
Check which certificate profile signed the package, whether it's a Samsung TV profile, and whether my TV's DUID is in the distributor certificate. Fix the cause (recreate the distributor certificate or run install-permit), repackage and reinstall. Don't delete my existing author certificate; back it up first if anything has to change.

6. Build and install Jellyfin on my TV

You run a Jellyfin media server and want the TV app.

Build jellyfin-tizen from https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-tizen following its README, package it as a .wgt with my certificate profile [profile name] and install it on target [target name]. Use Node 20+. Tell me any step where the README differs from what you did.

7. Block ads without rooting

You want fewer ads in the TV's menus, without building anything.

I have a Samsung Tizen TV, model [model]. Tell me how to set a custom DNS server in its network settings and which ad-blocking DNS to use (for example AdGuard DNS 94.140.14.14 and 94.140.15.15). Explain what this will and won't block, and how to undo it if an app stops working.

Common questions

How do you build and install your own app on a Samsung TV with AI?
Samsung smart TVs run Tizen, so the Android TV method (ADB over Wi-Fi) doesn't apply.
Can I use ADB on a Samsung TV?
No. ADB is for Android and Google TV. Samsung TVs run Tizen, which uses Samsung's own tool, sdb, and only accepts signed .wgt app packages. That is why Android TV cleanup guides don't work on Samsung, as two people below found.
Do I need to root or jailbreak the TV?
No. Developer Mode plus a free Samsung certificate is the official way to install your own apps. One person below warns that rooting a Tizen TV risks bricking it and the warranty, and removed ads with a DNS setting instead.
Can an AI agent do the whole thing?
Most of it. Claude Code or Codex can install the SDK, write the app, package it and install it. You still press the remote to turn on Developer Mode and sign in to your Samsung account yourself when the certificate is created.
Does this work on a Samsung Frame TV?
The Frame runs Tizen like other Samsung smart TVs. One person below installed a terminal app that connects to his Mac on his Frame TV.
Why does the install fail with error 1010?
Samsung's CLI docs say that error usually means a certificate problem: the package wasn't signed with a Samsung TV certificate, or the TV's DUID isn't in the distributor certificate. Recreate the certificate with the right DUID and repackage.
Can I put my app on other people's TVs?
For a few TVs you own, add each TV's DUID to your distributor certificate. To offer it to anyone, you need to submit it to Samsung's Seller Office for review.
Can AI control my Samsung TV without building an app?
Yes. Recent Samsung TVs have a local remote-control API that phone remote apps use; one person below had Claude Code write a tiny remote for it and plugged it into Grok Bot so 'open Netflix' works by voice. See the TV control guide for that path.
Which AI tools do people use to build and install your own app on a Samsung TV?
Across the 8 sourced use cases in this guide, the most used tools are Claude Code, Samsung TV, Claude, Tizen, Android TV.
How much does it cost to get started?
0 of the 8 use cases can start on a free plan. The most common paid starting price is $17/mo (4 use cases). Prices come from each tool's official pricing page.
How long does setup take?
1 of the 8 use cases lists a setup time of an hour or less. Each card shows the setup time the builder reported.
Are these real examples?
Yes. Every use case links to its public source (an X post, a Hacker News thread or a GitHub repo) with the author and date, so you can check it yourself.
